The system

• Zones — Store / Work / Park (or Bike). Name them or the floor fills again.
• Vertical first — walls and shelves beat piles. Floor is for the car and the mat.
• Same bins, same labels — short side facing you. Mixed brands is how you lose things.
• One-in-one-out — new tool means an old one leaves or gets a labeled home.

Layout that works

1. Shelving on the Store wall — steel, 4-tier, against the long wall. Heavy on the bottom.
2. Pegboard above the bench — daily drivers only. Magnetic strip for the rest.
3. Workbench wall-backed — solid top, clear surface. The bench is not storage.
4. Shop light over Work — 3000K LED. You cannot organize what you cannot see.
5. Rubber mat at the bench — anti-fatigue where you stand. Leave a clear path for the car.

What to skip

• Open cardboard boxes as “temporary” storage.
• Seven sizes of mystery bins with no labels.
• Tools on the floor “for now.”
• A workbench that is already a shelf.
